Sadie went through a LONG phase (about a year) where she really didn't want to pray. She especially hated saying prayers out loud in front of the family -- like at dinner. I didn't force the issue but we kept encouraging her. Well now the tables have turned and Sadie is upset if she doesn't get to say ALL the family prayers. We like to give her a chance as often as we can, but her prayers are so long now that it isn't always easy to sit through them if you are running late to school or if you have hot food on the table. Let me explain.
She starts off with the standard prayer stuff: bless the food, thank you for my family, etc, etc but then she starts naming any and every object that she sees (and yes, her eyes should be closed but it is obvious that they aren't). It goes something like this: "Thank you for the ceiling. Thank you for the lights. Thank you for the windows. Thank you for the doors." It can go on and on. It is just ironic how we tried so hard to get her to say 2 words in prayer just a month ago and now she has plenty to say. It is sweet and I am glad that she likes to pour her heart out in prayer. And we ARE thankful for everything in our home. So thank you Sadie for reminding us of the little things...like the pictures on the walls, and the curtains, and the light switches, and the cupboards!

That is hilarious! I think Sadie just knows how to get the attention she wants, whether it is refusing to pray before, or saying a silly prayer now. All my girls went through a long stage of not wanting to pray, but none had a comeback quite like that!
What a cutie! Emma sometimes prayers for each of her stuffed animals, ponies and dolls. That always happens on nights when I am exhausted and she is dragging out the going to bed process!
Okay...that is really random that Kendal just went through the SAME exact phase. Just like Sadie, she went from huge tantrums about having to pray, to peeking around the room and praying for everything she sees (blankets, each and EVERY stuffed animal by name, her pillows, the curtains, etc). She actually is so intent on all the things she is praying for that she forgets the actual purpose for the prayer (like blessing the food). Anyways, I just think it is really funny that Sadie is doing that too. :)
We are also having quite the time listening to McRae's prayers as of late. He also uses the same tactic of keeping his eyes open and praying for random things that he sees around the room. Sometimes it is really hard to stifle our laughter until after the prayer is over. But a child's prayer is innocence in its purest form!
